SISK started the pilot module of an English Language Training Session with a few IPER staff members. SISK members Laxmi Parasuram, Chitrita Sarkar, Rita Bose, Ranjana Pillai, Mohua Shome Lalvani and Shukla Chattopadhyay were present during the orientation class. The students communicated in English, introduced themselves, spoke about their work at IPER, opening our eyes to the wide vista of meaningful work undertaken by them. Laxmi Parsuram’s dream of SISK starting a training session became a reality.

On July 26th, an engaging interactive session on spoken English was held at Emmanuel School Kolkata, attended by 15 mothers of the students. The session was conducted by Barnali Datta and Shukla Chattopadhyay. Barnali Dutta curated a variety of interesting worksheets that contributed to the session’s interactivity and appeal. Participants were able to comprehend the worksheets, discuss images, and ask for suitable words and phrases to enhance their language skills. One of the learners even captured a video of the Soroptimists in action during the class. As a thoughtful gesture, each learner was provided with a notebook and a pencil on behalf of Cathy and Lindsay. The session concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the Soroptimists, highlighting the positive impact of interactive learning experiences. On July 5th, 24 young mothers attended a Spoken English class organized by SI South Kolkata at The Calcutta Emmanuel School. The session was led by PAO PP Ruma Sen and SISK member Shahida Ahmed. SISK President Shukla Chattopadhyay expressed her support on social media, emphasizing the significance of spoken English classes for the mothers at Emmanuel School. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of SISK Programme Action Officer Ruma Sen and other club members to empower these young mothers through language skills.

Soroptimist International South Kolkata International Women’s Day 2024 Inspire Inclusion Programme at The Calcutta Emmanuel School was an inspiring event with two speakers talking about Inclusion in extreme sports like mountaineering and the study of STEM subjects. Our speakers were 1) Mrs Deepali Sinha, Senior Advocate at Calcutta High Court and the first woman mountaineer of India and 2) Dr. Suman Khowala, SISK member n Retired Scientist. SISK members  Laxmi Parasuram, Jyoti, Ruma, Bhaswati, Reshma, Suman, Rinku, Anita and Shukla attended the dynamic event. Mr. Rohit Nyss, a friend of our esteemed member, Shukla Chattopadhyay, led an informative session with our team on website updates. In attendance were PAO Ruma Sen, Treasurer Bhaswati Biswas, Vice President Shukla Chattopadhyay, Saswati Bhattacharya, and President Jyoti Prasad. Rohit Nyss made a commendable contribution to the session. The members presented Mr. Nyss with a small token of appreciation for his time.
