On June 30th, 2022, six members SISK visited Alordisha, an Old Age Home, to celebrate the birthday of an inmate. A cake was cut and goodies were distributed. There was a lot of fun, laughter and camaraderie. Most of them shared stories that left us all teary eyed. In most cases, old and frail women are usually left unattended after the unfortunate death of their husbands and sadly, some are even expected to fend for themselves. Abandoned by the family in their twilight years and incapable of living on her own, she is often forced to live in an old age home, much against her wish. SISK organized this visit in an effort to bring some joy in their otherwise mundane lives and, thereby rekindle the ethos of respect and dignity towards senior citizens. This project 100 for 100 was taken up to celebrate the SIGBI DAY of ACTION on July17th, 2021. 100 saplings for 100 years of Soroptimism! In partnership with the Institute for Indian Mother & Child, SISK gifted 50 village women of Kheyadaha, Chellapara in the outskirts of Kolkata one fruit tree sapling and another shade bearing sapling each.
