If you want to truly challenge a person who has been teacher for most of their adult life, you might ask them to speak a few lines about themselves. In my mind, being a teacher has always been on how I can do my bit in empowering others and never seek the stage for myself.
An age-old proverb goes: “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.”

Saswati Bhattacharya
Programme Action Officer SISK

This has been my guiding light and my mantra which not only helps me to push my students, it also continues to always bear an immense sense of gratitude. I’m truly indebted for having exercised this opportunity to create better citizens of tomorrow. As my role of a teacher never ended with the ring of a bell – I always pursued ways through which I could influence the students’ character in their formative years and help make them a better individual.

Through my association with the South Kolkata chapter of Soroptimist International, I would definitely try to harness on that motivation and energy and objective. If I can humbly hold my head high on being a successful teacher, I would now like to take that identity forward and continue to make meaningful contributions to the lives of people beyond the classroom boundaries.
And, as always, I would be genuinely humbled by such a possibility.
