WHY SHOULD WE RECYCLE? Recycling reduces landfill waste and the demand for raw materials. At Spen Valley Soroptimists we have a group of partners who help us with our various collections.
Spectacles: Whaley Opticians in Batley collect them for Morley Lions, who send them to Africa.
Plastic Milk Bottle Tops: Yorkshire Charity Bottle Top Collection send them for recycling and receives a donation for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Boys Clothes: Healing Sisters Support Group, helping the children they support.
Gently worn Bras: Send to a charity in Scotland called Smalls for All, who send them to Africa
Wool: Given to anyone who needs it.
Medicine Blister Packs: Deliver to Boots for recycling by MY Group.
Natural Wine Corks: Majestic Wines send them to the Eden Project to enhance the soil.
We also collect drinks ring pulls for the Purple Community Fund. The ring pulls are made into jewelry and handbags by ladies in the villages in the Phillipines.
Used postage stamps are sent to Kirkwood Hospice in Huddersfield.
