January 2026 – Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
January is Cervical Awareness Month, it is a chance to shine a light on health issues like cervical cancer which is one of the most preventable cancers, yet it remains a significant health threat to women worldwide. With proper screening, timely treatment and vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV)—the primary cause of cervical cancer—this disease can largely be prevented. Soroptimists are proud to be #StandingUpForWomenAndGirls — and one of the most powerful ways we do that is by raising awareness of women’s health. Cervical cancer is both preventable and curable when detected early and managed effectively. Since 2023, Soroptimists across our Federation have been working tirelessly to promote screening, encourage HPV vaccination, and support the global effort to eliminate cervical cancer for good. Together, we can help save lives and create a future free from this disease. What starts as digital harassment often escalates into real-world consequences. International Women’s Day – 8th March 2025
The UN’s theme for International Women’s Day 2025 calls for “action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all”. Yet the UN also tells us that in 2025, no country has achieved gender equality, or is close to it. With so much work still to be done, this International Women’s Day, we reflect on the status of women’s rights and continue to call upon the government to recognise the shortfall in action and results on women’s rights, equality and empowerment.
