On Saturday the 31st May pigs were flying around Dewsbury District Golf Club.  Spen Valley Soroptimists wanted to hold a fun and different fundraising event to enable the families at the local refuge to have an outing to the seaside.  What could be funnier than 6 fluffy pink pigs racing, being cheered on by Joint Yorkshire President Judith, Soroptimists from eight Yorkshire clubs, plus family and friends?.  A whopping £800 was raised.  Many thanks to those who gave donations, sponsored races and bought pigs.  Also thanks to Michelle and her team at the golf club and to Steve and his team, and not forgetting the pink fluffy pigs!!  The question is ‘What Next?’.  Watch this space!

International Women’s Day – 8th March 2025

The UN’s theme for International Women’s Day 2025 calls for “action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all”.  Yet the UN also tells us that in 2025, no country has achieved gender equality, or is close to it. With so much work still to be done, this International Women’s Day, we reflect on the status of women’s rights and continue to call upon the government to recognise the shortfall in action and results on women’s rights, equality and empowerment.

SI Spen Valley was chartered on the 25th January 2025 at Dewsbury District Golf Club.  Ruth Healey, SIGBI Federation President was the Chartering Officer.   Lindsay Green, SIGBI Director of Programme, Judith Clark & Sue Butler, Joint Yorkshire Presidents, Susie Westwood, Immediate Past Yorkshire President and two of our Yorkshire Honorary members, Elizabeth Hughes and Margaret Cook joined SI Spen Valley for lunch, together with members from 15 of our Yorkshire clubs.  Click on each photo to view.
