Soroptimist Centenary Tree Planting Project

Following in the footsteps of our first Soroptimists, who lobbied to save the great Redwoods and established ‘The Redwood Grove’ in California, SI Stourbridge& District are aiming to plant 100 trees locally during our centenary year

 

 

  • An Acer Tree (Acer rubrum brandywine) has been planted at Mary Stevens Hospice with a plaque. The ongoing care of the tree will be by the tea at  by Mary Stevens.
  • MSH Certificate
  • A Tulip tree has been planted a Care Home where one of longest serving members in now living, Gwastad Hall. There are plans for a celebration at Gwastad Hall during 2021 when the tree will be  planted in its  permanent position. The ongoing care will be by Gwastad’s gardner.
  • A tree has been planted by Hamlin Fistular with a  plaque at tfhe Desta Mender Rehabilitation Centre.
  •  mature trees with the Dudley Local Authority are to be planted at Mary Stevens Park with plaques. Trees chosen and ordered by the LA are: 1 Ginkgo biloba; 1 Prunus ‘Kanzan’; 1 Quercus Palastris (Pin Oak).
  • A rooted Christmas Tree will replanted at a local Women’s Refuge rooted
  • A Scots Pine Tree will be planted at National Trust Clent,
  • An Application for a community group tree pack has been submitted to provide medium year-round colour. A site – Studley Gate, Stourbridge has been identified for the planting of 105 saplings. If the application is accepted, they  will be delivered and planted during March, 2021.

 

 

Soroptimists Su Roxburgh and Mary Tooley are at the planting of tree number 74 in the Clent Hills. The Scots Pine will be cared for by the National Trust
