Our Projects and Campaigns
Fylde Soroptimists have a vibrant and enthusiastic approach to project work, which is at the heart of Soroptimism. Through service and fundraising, we support a wide range of long-term initiatives, annual campaigns and one-off activities that raise awareness of important issues, both locally and globally.
Our projects include support for organisations such as Life Education, Fylde Foodbank, Forgotten 10, Fylde Sharks and Fylde Otters, Traidcraft and Fairtrade. We also sponsor the education of children in developing countries, ensuring they have opportunities that might otherwise be denied to them.
The club has a particular interest in health and environmental issues. Locally, we look for opportunities to raise awareness and offer support on environmental concerns, while internationally we focus on challenges affecting women’s health and wellbeing, including access to clean water and sanitation.
Each year we also mark significant United Nations observance days, such as the International Day of Peace and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. International Women’s Day on 8 March and the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October are celebrated annually with events and campaigns that highlight the importance of equality and empowerment.
Our main local focus is Fylde Coast Women’s Aid, a cause with which we have been closely associated for many years. In addition, we regularly work alongside other Soroptimist clubs on joint projects. One memorable example was contributing to a regional campaign that collected bras to be sent to Cyprus, creating the world’s longest bra chain to raise awareness of breast cancer.
At regional, national and international levels, SI Fylde also supports wider initiatives such as the ChoraChori project in Nepal, which works to protect vulnerable children. Through campaigns like these, we continue to raise awareness of the issues that matter most and to ensure that women’s voices are heard.
Our guiding commitment remains clear: to stand up for women, to promote equality, and to make a positive impact both in our local community and around the world.
