easyfundraising is a free and simple way to support good causes every time you shop online. Instead of going directly to a retailer’s website, you start your shopping through the easyfundraising platform or app. When you make a purchase, the retailer sends a small percentage of what you spend to your chosen cause — in this case, Fylde Soroptimists. It doesn’t cost you a penny extra, and every donation helps us continue our community projects and charitable work across the Fylde coast. https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/support-a-good-cause/step-1/?char=222459&invite=BFA97G&referral-campaign=c2s&utm_source=easyfundraising-app&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=share-tray
The Power of Giving – How Small Acts Create a Lasting Difference

The Power of Giving – How Small Acts Create a Lasting Difference

in

When we think about making a difference, it’s easy to imagine that big change needs big gestures. But the truth is, lasting change often begins with something small, maybe a kind word, a thoughtful action, or a simple donation given from the heart. For Fylde Soroptimists, every contribution, whether it’s time, money, or encouragement, helps us continue our mission to improve the lives of women and girls both locally and across the world. Our projects are powered by the generosity of people who believe that, together, we can create stronger, fairer, and more compassionate communities. Sometimes that generosity comes as a one-off gift to support a local cause. Sometimes it’s a donation made in memory of someone special, or even a legacy left in a will, a final, beautiful act that continues to make a difference long after it’s given. But not all giving is

An afternoon of celebration at Lytham Hall

An afternoon of celebration at Lytham Hall

A fabulous afternoon at Lytham Hall as we celebrated the amazing contribution to the community that our Charity – Speak Up for Women – has made over the last 13 years! Over £700,000 has been given to local charities and community organisations by means of grants and donations. It was wonderful to hear how this money has made such a difference. Representatives of Park View 4U, Wesley’s Community Cafe & Larder Fylde Rugby Community Foundation, Age UK, Community Workshop Lytham, Lytham Hall, Lowther Pavilion Theatre, IHOPE, Just Good Friends – North West, The League of Friends of Cliftin Hospital, Fylde Sharks, Connect Community Choir, Streetwise, along with other local organisations, all joined in thanking the Fylde Soroptimist Charity for all their support over the years. Guests enjoyed drinks and a delicious hotpot and were able to mingle and share stories. Then the fabulous cake was

Toilet Twinning

Toilet Twinning

Fylde Soroptimists achieved huge success with their “80 for 80” Toilet Twinning project in 2018 and managed to secure the twinning of well over 100 toilets within the Fylde Borough.  This means that in excess of £6,000 has gone towards the provision of sanitation and hygiene education in places such as Nepal, Cambodia, Tanzania and some African countries where conditions are particularly dangerous to health, which, in turn, will enable better education for the children in these areas. The Club has been supported in the project by Mark Menzies, MP, Fylde Borough Council, Lytham Hall, Freckleton Social Club, No. 10 Ale House, the Glendower Hotel, Lowther Pavilion and St Annes Parish Church - to name but a few – all of whom have twinned their toilets. Fylde Soroptimists have also worked in close contact with the pupils at AKS, and they have been doing some

As part of the worldwide Soroptimist movement, SI Fylde is proud to maintain a number of Friendship Links with other clubs in the UK and overseas. These links allow us to share ideas, support one another’s projects, and build lasting connections across regions and continents. SI Tynedale Based in Hexham in the Northern England Region, SI Tynedale has been a Friendship Link for many years. Their work includes projects in Rwanda, helping to train girls and young women in cookery skills, and supporting Chrysalis, a charity that assists people living with dementia, along with their families and carers. This charity was founded by a former Soroptimist and her friends, and continues to make a real difference. SI Guernsey Our Friendship Link with SI Guernsey in the Channel Islands has also been long-standing. With over 50 active members, Guernsey is a thriving club that has worked

Soroptimists Against Slavery – “Nothing to do with US?”

Raising Awareness of Modern Slavery Soroptimist International of The Fylde has campaigned on humanitarian issues for many years, often working behind the scenes to raise awareness and support projects that challenge injustice. One of the most urgent issues we continue to highlight is modern slavery. Although many people imagine slavery as something from the past, or as an issue confined to other countries, the reality is far closer to home. Modern slavery takes many forms, including human trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced labour, and domestic servitude. Victims are often recruited under false promises, then trapped by coercion, isolation or fear. Sadly, exploitation can occur in any community, including our own. Research shows that four people are trafficked into slavery every minute. One in five women worldwide are victims of rape. These are not distant statistics, they reflect a global problem that also impacts towns and cities

Our Projects and Campaigns Fylde Soroptimists have a vibrant and enthusiastic approach to project work, which is at the heart of Soroptimism. Through service and fundraising, we support a wide range of long-term initiatives, annual campaigns and one-off activities that raise awareness of important issues, both locally and globally. Our projects include support for organisations such as Life Education, Fylde Foodbank, Forgotten 10, Fylde Sharks and Fylde Otters, Traidcraft and Fairtrade. We also sponsor the education of children in developing countries, ensuring they have opportunities that might otherwise be denied to them. The club has a particular interest in health and environmental issues. Locally, we look for opportunities to raise awareness and offer support on environmental concerns, while internationally we focus on challenges affecting women’s health and wellbeing, including access to clean water and sanitation. Each year we also mark significant United Nations observance days,
