The Soroptimist International Wigan 2018 Charter Dinner was held on May 4th at Ashfield House Wigan. President Angela Holmes welcomed Wigan Mayor Bill Clarke and his wife Joan. The guest speaker for the evening was Kevin Boyle OBE who spoke about his role as a national leader in Education and his many years as a headteacher. The evening celebrated the achievements of President Angela and the members of Soroptimist International Wigan over the previous 12 months and the friendship of the club with neighbouring Soroptimist Clubs in South Lancashire.  

Members and friends attended a meal at the Wheel Restaurant at Wigan College in March. The meal was excellent as always and service from the college students very professional. Money raised from the evening will be donated to charities supported by Soroptimist International Wigan.

Soroptimist International Wigan members and friends made chicks that were filled chocolate eggs to raise money for the Hospice.The chicks were sold at the South Lancashire Regional meeting and are on sale at Wigan and Leigh Hospice until Easter.

Soroptimist International Wigan has supported the Brick Project in Wigan for many years. Janet Mitchell Brick Fundraising Manager came and spoke to the members at the Business Meeting in March about current projects and developments.

The Soroptimist International Annual Charity Ball was held on February 10th at the DW Stadium. The evening was a great success with everyone entering into the spirit of Vintage Glitz or  Glamour. The evening included Olivia Garcia  X Factor contestant and possible Eurovision contestant.The MC for the evening was Gary Speakman who made sure that the evening, the raffle and auction ran smoothly. Money raised on the evening will support local, national and international charities including the Alzheimer’s Society, Wigan and Leigh Hospice, the Brick and DIAS          

              The Soroptimist International Wigan 2017 Young Achiever Award  was presented to winner Olivia Barrow  at Wigan Town Hall by the Mayor of Wigan Borough Councillor Bill Clarke, his wife Joan and Wigan President Angela Holmes.Olivia received her award for outstanding achievment for service to the community and academic achievement. Runner up Olivia Monks was also congratulated for her achivement in service to the community. The event was a celebration of the achievements of both girls and was attended by family members, and representatives of Soroptimist International Wigan.
