Get Set for Christmas -14th November, 2023

What a wonderful evening we all had at our ‘Get Set for Christmas’ fundraising event excellently compered by Susan who guided us through an evening packed with demonstrations, crafts, competitions and generally an altogether fun evening.

President Marianne warmly welcomed all our guests and in particular our Ukrainian friends Alla Lemishenko and Katerina who were representing ‘Glowing Harp’ the Veronika Lemishenko Charity Foundation the main beneficiary of the evening’s fundraising.

The Foundation has been repurposed prioritising its efforts in support of those in need who remain in Ukraine during this time of conflict.  Assistance has been given to many causes including relief centers, hospitals, volunteers in various capacities and has even included support to animal shelters – many family pets left behind when their families had to leave Ukraine.

The first demonstration of the evening was by Carys who showed us how to pack our Christmas gifts more elegantly and what’s more at no extra cost – just a bit of patience and care and Carys’ top tips.

Next up was Cathrine, a professional make-up artiste who had her work cut out trying to Sjuj up President Marianne’s make-up in readiness for that Christmas Party – well done and thank you Cathrine for answering all the questions.

Katerina and Alla rounded up the demonstrations showing us very cleverly how to make Christmas Floral Decorations with sweets and bits and pieces.

The long awaited result of Susan’s ‘Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar’ was revealed and Mavis was the lucky winner and we have it on good authority that they disappeared rather quickly.. all gone!

A little bit of fun time – Susan warmly welcomed Lord James Highbury-Hyde who cleverly demonstrated how a bow tie should or could be tied – three brave volunteers stepped up and … the results were mixed shall we say.. Lord James our guest judge for the evening eventually declared a winner.

A huge thank you for the very generous raffle prizes received in support of Ty Gobaith/ Hope House Children’s Hospices and as we were successfully registered for the ‘Final Moments Matter 2023’ the money raised on the evening was doubled.

A very, very big thank you to all who contributed crafts and raffle prizes and Susan for hosting the event, and for leading our fund-raising dynamos this year also supported by Diane and Mavis. A big thank you to Moira and the team at the Old Courthouse for their warm welcome and the so very tasty canapes.

And finally…

A wonderful grand total of £1,000 was raised for the Veronika Lemishenko Charity Foundation.

The Get Set Christmas Raffle on the evening raised a wonderful £126 Towards Ty Gobaith/ Hope House Children’s Hospices doubling up to a total of £252.
