The opening ceremony at the superb Waterfront Hall, launched the event in great style, led by Federation
President Maureen, whose pleasure in seeing so many members from across the Federation was very evident. Conference Committee Chair, Norma Evans, welcomed guests and members, before Chief Steward Theresa Nixon introduced the flags of the Federation; always a very moving ceremonial session, as the flags of each country of the Federation are brought through the hall onto the stage to form a very colourful backdrop for the whole conference.
The annual Roll Call follows, and members from each Region, National Association and Country stand to announce their presence – greeted with cheery welcomes and applause from all their fellow Soroptimists.
Guests and members were also welcomed with short speeches by Northern Ireland Junior Ministers, Jonathan Bell MLA and Jennifer McCann MLA; Hazel Holmlund, SIGBI Northern Ireland Regional President and Jillian Patchett, President, SI Lurgan; which is President Maureen’s Club.
Sparkling musical entertainment followed, with polished performances by Cellist Eva Richards, the
Newtonabbey Boys’ Brigade bugle band and drum corps and, in full voice, the Portadown Male Voice Choir, all of whom were exceptionally entertaining!
