President Myra Le Vine welcomed Members to the meeting and wished everyone a Happy New Year. She hoped members had managed to enjoy what was a very different Christmas and New Year.
Seven of our members do not use Zoom but minutes and notifications are sent out regularly by e mail.
President Myra welcomed Yorkshire President Linda who spoke about the SI Centenary tree
planting project.
SI Dewsbury and SI Wakefield had worked with Kirklees Council and one of their Countryside Rangers to plant trees on the site of a former rubbish tip. Digging the holes is physically hard work so they had help from husbands and youth groups including the Scouts.
S I Richmond and Dales were planning to plant trees at the Jonas Centre.
SI Leeds had planted 90 trees to mark their 90th anniversary as they were unable to have a celebratory event.
The Woodland Trust provides saplings of native trees free of charge. This has provided the clubs with good experience and learning for the SIGBI Centenary project. President Linda referred us to the Centenary section of the SIGBI website for further information. There is a google map of
where Soroptimist trees are planted.
Currently all tree planting activity is suspended due to the pandemic.
President Myra thanked the club for all the food donations that had been assembled into 10 food hampers. They were taken to the Preston Road Women’s Centre in Hull, who had
expressed their grateful thanks.
We shall continue to meet via Zoom for the foreseeable future and hope to supplement these meetings with minutes, newsletters and telephone contact to all members.
