Christine Walker Memorial Fund

Christine joined the club in 1987 and was Club President from 1993-94, and made an honorary member in 2008.  She was an active member of the club and cared passionately about issues affecting women and girls throughout the world, fully supporting the aims and objects of Soroptimism to make a difference to their lives.

Some of the Club’s long-term work locally has been with the Women’s Refuge, Life Education Centres for Lancashire, the Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Child Contact Centre and the Blackpool Talking News Service. These projects are just as important to the Club today and members continue to work and support them and other organisations.

Sadly Christine suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and died at the age of 53 in 2011.  Although she was not able to attend meetings towards the end of her life, her interest and passion for the work of Soroptimists never waned. Christine left our club a bequest and with it instructions to use the funds for the benefit of SI Blackpool and District and its work with charitable organisations.
