Mollie’s 90th Birthday Party

mollies party

SI Bolton members organised a surprise afternoon tea party for Mollie on the 14th of January at President Frankie’s house.  Mollie has been a member of SI Boton since August  1977 – a staggering 37years!  She served as President in 1986/7..

Mollie was of high renown and a household name in the Bolton area and beyond in her working life as a baker and caterer.

She was one of the original committee that started Bolton Hospice and she funded the first Hospice shop in Bolton.

Sad Post Script

Mollie sadly died on May 1st 2015 and several of our members attended her funeral at St. Peter’s Church.  The Eulogy delivered by family members was based on Mollie’s own journal which she had kept for many years.  Her voice was heard loud and clear punctuated with amusing stories and observations from her everyday life.  Laughter and tears were close companions on that day.

At the funeral Mollie’s nephew, Robert Bentham, paid tribute to his “amazing, hard working auntie” who had been a keen fund raiser for various charities in the borough. The shop that she bought for the Hospice in 1989 has since raised the sum of over £2.2 million.
