Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working to transform the lives of women and girls. We have nearly 72,000 Members in 121 countries. Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) has 6000 Members in 270 Clubs in 18 countries including Great Britain, Ireland and countries in Asia, the Caribbean and Malta. We work at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls.
Here in Cockermouth we have chosen the following projects for the coming year:
- bed making at Clavert Trust
- West Cumbria Domestic Violence Project
- support to Purple Community Fund – we have collected stationary and baby wear which will be sent to the Philippines to help the women and children living in the slums
This year, our president Claire has issued us with a challenge :
can we collect 100 environmental/planet saving ideas!
