Evening with Past Members and Presentation of Soroptimist Cup.

The meeting of SI Crieff on 21 March was attended by this year’s winner of The Soroptimist Cup, Beth Davidson along with runner up Laura Hamilton. The cup has been presented annually for 20 years to a girl in S4 in CHS for personal, rather than academic, achievement and every year stories of courage and character come up. This year saw a large number of entries and, as in previous years, the calibre was high making for a difficult choice. However it was clear that Beth and Laura, who both spoke eloquently about their achievements and pride in their success, were worthy winners. The attached photo shows Beth (on left) and Laura (2nd from right) alongside Iris King and President Pat Mowatt.
To mark this year’s 60th anniversary, a number of past members of SI Crieff were invited to meet the cup winner and runner up and to reminisce with current members over a cup of tea. It was apt that Past Presidents from the 25th, 40th, 45th and 50th anniversaries were all present. Each president from these years – Anne Scott, Linda MacDougall, Janice Wilson and Diane Hunter respectively – as well as another past president Corrie McNeil, the longest serving club member, recalled memories and amusing incidents from their times in office. It was fascinating to hear how things have evolved over the years and even the menus from various dinners/events, held for instance in the old George Hotel, showed their times! Carol Buchan, who joined just a couple of years ago, also said a few words giving her reasons for becoming a member and its relevance today and current President Pat Mowat said how much she has enjoyed her year in office.
Club members through the years have always enjoyed themselves – this was evident from the photo albums and books of press cuttings on display. As with everything else, clubs have changed tremendously over time and meetings are now much more relaxed and informal but the aims of Soroptimism continue.
All in all this was a most enjoyable evening and a pleasant walk down memory lane!
