The meeting of SI Crieff on 21 March was attended by this year’s winner of The Soroptimist Cup, Beth Davidson along with runner up Laura Hamilton. The cup has been presented annually for 20 years to a girl in S4 in CHS for personal, rather than academic, achievement and every year stories of courage and character come up. This year saw a large number of entries and, as in previous years, the calibre was high making for a difficult choice. However it was clear that Beth and Laura, who both spoke eloquently about their achievements and pride in their success, were worthy winners. To mark International Women’s Day, SI Crieff invited members of local women’s groups to join them last Thursday evening (7 March) in Strathearn Artspace for a social get-together, enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles and to hear two speakers and a local choir, all of whom took ‘women’ as their theme. Janice Wilson briefly explained the principles of Soroptimism – to strive for the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, equality, development and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace. Janice introduced the first speaker, Carol McGregor, who gave an interesting outline of her charitable work. She explained how her training as an audio describer for theatregoers with impaired vision began at Perth Theatre but then extended into a number of other theatres and cinemas across the country bringing great pleasure and enjoyment to many. We were delighted when Gerard Butler visited our stall at the opening event for the Comrie Fortnight.

Members  enjoyed a great day out on HMY Britannia.  An interesting tour; loads of laughs; good food and fellowship.  Many thanks to President Pat for organising the day.
