February 2025

On Saturday 8th February EGSI enjoyed a fund raising quiz at East Grinstead Sports Club. We were pleased to welcome friends and family as well as members and were delighted that the Mayor and his wife joined us. It was great fun and raised over £440. Our thanks go to Alan, President Alison’s husband, for writing such a fiendish quiz!

At our meeting on Wednesday 5th February we were delighted to welcome Charlotte Holmes who spoke to us about her career. After a year at university she decided that wasn’t the way she wanted her future to go so she took a risk and left and obtained an office role at Chelsea football club. She stayed there for a a few years before moving into fund raising roles, initially helped fund raise for IVF charities, until moving to work for Leukaemia UK. Here she is Head of Philanthropy, where she helps people give to causes they are passionate about, whether that be via a business, as an individual or through an event.

One of the biggest events of the year that Clare is involved in organising is “Who’s cooking dinner”.

You pay to come to an event and sit with 9 other guests at one of 20 tables not knowing which celebrity or Michelin star chef might be cooking your four-course meal. The likes of Gordon Ramsay, Rick Stein, Mark Hix, Angela Hartnett, Tom Kerridge and more have cooked at this unique event, where each table has a different chef preparing their meal. Certainly an evening to remember.

Clare was so full of energy and enthusiasm that you can imagine she is very successful at her role, you would certainly find it difficult to say no to her!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we also enjoyed meeting her young son, who although spent a lot of time in another room with his grandfather, won everyone’s heart.
