The guest lecturer at the Club meeting on 20th November was the the Very Reverend Lorna Hood O.B.E.
Lorna is the founder, and Chair, of the Charity Remembering Srebrenica (Scotland) – www.srebrenica.org.uk/information/Scotland and her presentation reflected her deep involvement with the diverse communities in that town.
She began her talk with a summary of the events leading up to the Srebrenica Massacre in 1995 in which 8,372 Bosniak men and boys were killed by Serb forces. She then shared the stories of 4 women who suffered, and witnessed, atrocities during the massacre and are trying in different ways to deal with the psychological and physical trauma they experienced at that time.
She concluded by giving an overview of the Charity’s vision.
This was an informative, and at times harrowing, talk which underlined the fact that 24 years after the massacre, there is still a need for reconciliation among the communities living in Srebrenica.
