Previous Social Events

We have had a some enjoyable social events this year. In May we hosted a coffee morning and then we had our quiz in July with an excellent finger buffet supplied by members. Grateful thanks to all members and to quiz mistress for her quiz.

Many of us had a lovely evening out with a fish and chip meal at Filby Bridge and the film ‘the Darkest Hour’ at the village hall. We then had another coffee morning in November  and our Christmas dinner at the Burlington in December – a most enjoyable meal and get-together. The Burlington looked after us very well, as always. Also in December some of our members were able to go for a meal at Filby Bridge, an enjoyable occasion for all.

A lot of work went into the organisation of our two International Women’s Day events. As last year we joined with members of GYROS, Library staff, and many others. It never ceases to amaze me how so much can be organised in such a short time! Many members worked tirelessly to achieve a very successful weekend. Thank you GYROS for making the beautiful cakes for the lunch. The Friday event went very well with inspirational speakers and a delicious buffet prepared by the library cafe. Sunday’s lunch was a very special occasion – a very good lunch and speakers. It was attended by the mayor and her consort and 96 others. The auction went well and with the two raffles raised a substantial amount for our charities. Grateful thanks to all who helped to make it such an enjoyable and successful weekend.

Our final social event of the year was our beetle drive in March. Members again supplied an excellent buffet and we were able to raise £400 for our charities. These events could not take place without the help and generosity of our members. A big thank you to you all for all your hard work.
