Members of Soroptimist International of Heswall and District have been busy this year, yet another achievement is the completion of over 140 twiddlemuffs. Our target was 70, for our 70th anniversary, but our industrious members have managed to double that already, and there are still two months to go. At our meeting in February we presented 70 to Margaret Davies from the Dementia Unit at Arrowe Park, who confirmed they would be put to good use.

    Soroptimist International of Heswall and District are very pleased and proud to announce that we have succeeded in our aim to make Heswall a Toilet Twinned Town. Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who helped us achieve this. The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Tony Smith and the Mayoress, kindly hosted us at the Mayor’s Parlour at Wallasey Town Hall in February for a formal presentation of the certificate. We then presented him with framed photograph of a toilet twin to place in a suitable place at the Town Hall.  

House of Memories is a dementia awareness programme developed by National Museums Liverpool which offers training, access to resources, and museum-based activities to enable carers to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia. Carol Rogers from the Museum gave an excellent insight into the development of the programme and its expansion both in the UK and overseas.

At the Club's annual international dinner members were joined by presidents and members from Region to hear guest speaker Philip Holmes talk about Empowering Girls in Nepal which is the SIGBI project for 2019-22.

SI Heswall members and guests enjoyed a special celebration for the 70th anniversary of the Club’s Charter. A highlight was a toilet – shaped cake as part of the Club’s support throughout the year for the Toilet Twinning project. https://www.toilettwinning.org

  The evening of the change of Insignia was a double celebration. Members marked the 70th anniversary of the Club’s Charter and enjoyed a cake baked for the occasion.             President Maureen handed over to Presidents Sue and Glenys. The Club’s Vice-Presidents – Pam and Ann – are also seen here with their chain of office.            

The May Dinner/speaker meeting coincided with Mental Health Awareness Week and members wore green to mark this. The first speaker of the year spoke about Toilet Twinning (toilettwinning.org)  – one of the Presidents’ charities for the year.

For the club’s 70th year Presidents Sue  and Glenys have chosen the theme of ‘Working in Partnership’. Their charities for the year are Toilet Twinning (toilettwinning.org), Alzheimer’s Society (alzheimers.org.uk) and Wirral Young Carers. Sue is seen here at the Change of Insignia.
