We bought a roll of orange ribbon and a number of members took a length and displayed the ribbons outside their homes, usually with a poster printed from the SIGBI resources. The orange signifies ‘hope’ within the UN’s 16 Days of Activism to end Violence against Women and Children.
The ribbons on the gate were seen by over 80 people on the first afternoon they were in place. There is a primary school at the end of the road and the parents were looking at the poster and ribbons on their way to the school, and then the older children were reading and discussing the poster on the way back. Later on some secondary pupils were also stopping and reading the poster and talking about it.
We also managed to have the lights on Kirkcaldy Promenade ‘oranged’ during the 16 Days.
