What did Byron School Children Donate for Shoebox Appeal?

In October, I told the Byron children in the UNICEF Rights-Respecting Schools Steering Group about the Blythswood Christmas Shoebox Appeal that as Soroptimists, we support each year.

I took along a filled and wrapped shoebox to show the children what types of essential items we provide in each box such as a hat, scarf, gloves, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, socks, soap, flannel, sweets, and a toy.

The children were keen to get involved and they voted on the items they felt were important. They agreed a tooth brush and tooth paste were useful to help children achieve their right to health.

They were marking World Children’s Day on  20th November this year with an act of kindness and so each class was asked for any donations by 23 November..

All the donations were gathered together and presented to me to take to the Collection Point on their behalf.

I was able to take them straight after our meeting as I was joining some of my Soroptimist colleagues volunteering there. They were really pleased to receive this generous donation from Byron as their supplies as fillers were getting low and would have to have been restocked.
