UPDATE – May Speaker Meeting 18/05

Our first monthly speaker meeting went very well. We had a wonderful group of students, named Enactus, doing amazing job; helping women to achieve their potentials. We learnt that Enactus is an international non-profit organisation which aims to empower individuals to make opportunities into sustainable positive progress, for both themselves and the community through entrepreneurial-based projects. Their presentation was really exciting and was focussed on their three excellent projects currently being undertaken. We had some guests, including, our guest speaker, for whom our Immediate Past President, Uzma Kazmi, had prepared a presentation about Soroptimism. In short, it was a well-attended and well-received meeting. After both the presentations in the first hour of our meeting, we had time to socialise and learn about each other and Soroptimist. Thanks to our President, Pauline Reed, for a good start to the year. ADVERT (11/05/2017) At our first monthly speaker

The US election proved a catalyst for a grassroots movement of women to assert the positive values that the politics of fear denies.  On January 21 2017, the first day of Donald Trump’s Presidency, women-led marches, welcoming all participants, took place across the world, with the largest in Washington D.C..  We, the organisers of the London march, called on people of all genders to march in London as part of an international day of action in solidarity. We marched for the protection of our fundamental rights and for the safeguarding of freedoms threatened by recent political events. We united and stood together for the dignity and equality of all peoples, for the safety and health of our planet and for the strength of our vibrant and diverse communities. We came together in the spirit of democracy, honouring the champions of human rights who have gone

Thanks to all who participated in the evening and and all those who provided food and drinks. The evening was very successful. Carol was presented with her 25 year certificate, and we had an interesting presentation from Anu Ahitan, representative of Arbonne with the opportunity to try some of her products. We had two guests, Annabel Young and Hiba Ismail, both former members, (not forgetting Gill who officially joins us on 1st January). Thanks to absent friends Jean, Mary and Gemma who sent their good wishes to us.
