The region meeting was held at the YMCA in Newark on 18th November 2023
Clubs were given the opportunity to have a fund-raising stall with some clubs showcasing their craft work.
For many years the 3 Midland regions have worked together and this has now been formalised as a Friendship Link.
Four individual members stepped up, sharing their conference experiences at Soroptimist International Convention in Dublin in July and the more recent SIGBI Conference in London early November. These were- Hazel Fish, Dr Mary Cooke, Gill Proud and Brenda Wallam.
Our guest speakers were Sheila Rollinson and Councillor Mike Adams
Sheila Rollinson, a trailblazer for women’s football who founded Derby County Ladies Football club and has dedicated 50 years to Football. Her inspirational talk about her journey where she played a central role in the development of the game in the Midland area.
We really enjoyed listening to her story as it is not too dissimilar to our pledge for advancing the cause of women and girls being given as many opportunities as possible.
Councillor Mike Adams talked about the important subject of climate change which all our members are passionate about. How and what we can do positively to reduce the impact, to realise our actions and striking a balance. He touched on nuclear power, hydrogen, solar energy, planting trees, and safeguarding the environment. To save life …
