On a chilly yet sunny morning at the start of September our members loaded up their cars and headed off for a fun day at The Heart of the Valley Show. This is an annual family-fun event held in Pontardawe, focusing on rural heritage, local crafts, community and entertainment. It was launched in 2012 with the aim of reconnecting the rural and local communities via an affordable, educational, interactive “old-fashioned” show.
SI Port Talbot has been attending the event for many years, promoting Soroptimist International and our varied activities as well as running a very popular bottle stall. SI members have seen the expansion of this wonderful show, which has now grown to include local exhibitions, crafts, food venders, dog shows, live music, circus workshops and much more.
SI members gathered/ donated over 200 bottles/ jars ranging from wine, and squash to shampoo and cooking oil. All participants in the lucky dip were thrilled with their winnings and those who were unlucky with their ticket numbers still went away with a small consolation prize of sweets, the generated funds are earmarked for an upcoming charity.
