This was an initiative to support the building of a dormitory in a school in Masaka Uganda.
SI Rhyl and District worked to raise funds and support this project.
We encouraged the school girls and local residents to set up a bee apiary to not only save the environment but to generate income from the honey and bi-products, which will contribute to the school building. The school now have their own 10 hive apiary.
This will also provide them with the skills to earn an income of their own when they leave school.
We keep in touch with the school and our linked club members of Soroptimist International in Masaka for news on how they are proceeding.
We have also organised events to raise money to contribute to the school Dormitory. One of our members has been busy knitting to help raise further funds.
A total of £10,506 over 7 years has been raised by SI Rhyl & District towards the completion of this venture.
UPDATE : JULY 2023 – We are pleased to announce that the dormitory has now been finished and the girls are in residence.
