What We’ve Been Doing This Month
We’ve had a busy and uplifting month at Soroptimist International Richmond & Dales, with plenty to celebrate. Our recent club activity has combined fundraising, community support and practical action for women and girls, while also giving us the chance to welcome new members and share some truly inspiring stories.
Inspiring Stories From Our Members
One of the highlights of the month was a lively club meeting where two of our newer members stepped in at short notice to speak. Claire Peatfield shared insights from her work as a psychoanalytical psychotherapist, reflecting on the importance of safe, supportive spaces for children and families. We also heard from Lindsay Sykes, who was recently recognised at a national award ceremony for her outstanding work with children from military families through Richmondshire Scouts. Together, their stories were a powerful reminder of the compassion, commitment and experience that exist within our club.
Fundraising That Supports Women and Girls
Our recent fundraising has also been a real success. Our coffee morning and Afternoon Tea with Brenda Hale event together raised £1,000 for the Paul Curran Celebration Trust, with the money ringfenced to support girls and women. As well as raising valuable funds, the event brought Soroptimists together from across Yorkshire and created a wonderful opportunity to highlight the work we are doing locally.
Local and Global Charity Impact
Our charity impact continues to reach both local and global communities. Through Lendwithcare, we have been able to make more small loans that help women build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Closer to home, we have received baby items collected by Richmond students, which will support local families in practical ways. We have also been preparing activity around World Environment Day as part of our ongoing commitment to making a positive difference in the community.
Welcoming New Members
We are especially pleased that our club continues to grow, with five new members joining over the past year. What makes our club special is the mix of ages, backgrounds and experience that people bring, alongside a shared commitment to improving the lives of women and girls. That sense of purpose, combined with friendship and practical action, is what continues to make our work both rewarding and worthwhile.
