The SIGBI day of action held on 16/07/22 chose to keep the focus on climate change and address the scourge of single use plastic. The club’s potential members took up this challenge by hosting a seedling sale at the store front of the JTA supermarket located at the C3 mall.
Shoppers were encouraged to grow their own food by purchasing seedlings at a nominal price and were given free reusable shopping bags when they spent above a certain amount. Over 500 vegetable and herb seedlings as well as an assortment of flowering plants were sold to the public many of whom expressed the desire to start their kitchen garden.
Additionally club members displayed creative items made out of single use containers to inspire the public to also find ways to reuse and up cycle their existing plastic containers. Furthermore members engaged and educated the public through dialogue and colourful posters on the harmful effects of single use plastic.
