What is the 16 Days of Activism?
Launched in 1991 by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL), the 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence runs from November 25th (International Day against Violence to Women) to December 10th (International Human Rights Day).
In 2020, the most recent report from the UN Human Rights Council predicted that “women in the most vulnerable forms of informal work will be the most harshly affected”.

How can we promote this?
There are many ways and one example caused a stir!
In 2019, Glamorgan Soroptimists decided with the councils’s permission and working with Cardiff Women’s Aid and Cardiff and Vale White Ribbon Campaign to “orange” 16 of Cardiff’s statues. The Miner statue was also oranged. The visual impact proved a talking point and raised the issue amongst towns people. Orange badges “Soroptimists Say No to Violence Against Women”
