Soroptimist International - Warrington

Soroptimist International of Warrington is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Welcome to SI Warrington

Soroptimist International of Warrington was chartered in October 1945, and is part of a worldwide service organisation dedicated to making the world a better place, and in particular to improving the lives of women and girls. (Click the tab on the left to go to the next page “What is Soroptimism?” for more information.)

Our club meets in Lymm on the third Tuesday of every month. Our activities include fundraising, raising awareness and advocacy. And – of course – having fun is also an essential part of getting together!

We support a range of charities, both locally and internationally.  We have had a long association in particular with the Warrington Women’s Refuge. The current refuge building was furnished with the club’s support and we continue to assist its activities in a number of ways.  In addition, each Christmas we provide gifts to those women having to spend the festive season in the refuge – this year the request is for new sets of towels, in previous years we have provided bags of toiletries.

Other organisations helped by the club have included the Claire House Hospice for children, Warrington Action Homeless, the Warrington Peace Centre, St Rocco’s Hospice, the Warrington Food Bank, the New Routes Charity for young adults with learning disabilities, and many more.  More recently, we have worked with a local high school to promote awareness among girls of the many career opportunities available to them if they take subjects at GCSE in the STEM area – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

We lobby MPs, write letters on issues of importance to women and girls, help women learn the skills for leadership and much more.  Our activities include plenty of social interaction, too, whether it’s getting together as a club for a project, holding a bingo night to raise funds or inviting members of other clubs in our region to social events. We have friendship links with other Soroptimist clubs in the USA, Australia, Finland, Iceland, Malta, Norway and Zimbabwe.

SI Warrington is a club which is always keen to grow through adding new members.   Have a look around these pages to see what we get up to. If you’re interested in finding out more about us and perhaps joining us, we’d love to hear from you. If we sound like women whose company you’d enjoy, use the Contact Us page to get in touch.
