Brenda Saunders a local soroptimist was contacted by a friend who explained how much additional demand the Weybridge Foodbank was having in lockdown, at a time when donations were dropping off the cliff as more and more regular shoppers arranged online deliveries. Brenda was delighted to see the very swift Surrey Comet coverage of the welcome presentation of an initial donation of a sum of £500 raised by Soroptimists in the Weybridge and District Club.
Brenda, seen presenting the cheque to the Foodbank Team Leader in person in July said “It was simply amazing…the response to our club campaign #Meal4Another was instant and we soon had enough to donate £500, a first part of the planned sums. I’m fairly new to Soroptimism myself, inspired by the global voice and action this 100 year old women’s association focused on helping women and girls succeed has, it’s proven our local members will quickly help local families facing food and fuel poverty. We are meeting other local providers of support alongside our work with refuges and producing NHS scrubs, we’ve managed to contribute in lockdown against the odds”
