Soroptimist International (SI) Weybridge & District is an active women’s club with a membership of over 20 women; we have members who were involved with founding the club in Weybridge, women who are active retired and women who are in employment and/or volunteering. Age or experience is no barrier. The current club membership is drawn from Cobham, Molesey, Thames Ditton, Pyrford and Weybridge with some remote members who attend less regularly; if you can get to our meetings near Esher we’d love to hear from you.
We meet monthly for supper and to work together and drive forward projects which focus on improving the lives of women and girls at community, local government, national and international level in tandem with friendship links and partners within our SIGBI Federation region. Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month generally near Esher. Local projects include support for the NHS, local schools and the food banks, refuges, refugees, the Domestic Abuse service, prisons, women’s health charities and local charities in our community.
Soroptimists are focused on projects which enable education, freedoms, equity and enhancement for women and girls including access to equality in every aspect of education, work and life. SI has 7 UN focused officers and a seat at the UN CSW to report on program progress, findings, ideas and change in the status of women in our 7 global federations. We support the UN Sustainable goals with specific reference to goals impact the wellbeing, health, education, peace and advancement of rights for women and girls.
Internationally the club has strong friendship links in Northern Europe and Sri Lanka and contributes to programme action by organising events, socials and creating awareness in the local community of the work of Soroptimists worldwide.
Our club is recruiting new members, we’d love to have more ‘friends’ to socialise with and work alongside. If you have time on your hands and want to make a difference in any small way we’d love you to meet up for a cuppa, then come along and join in with some meetings to see how we function – always in the spirit of friendship.
