            Soroptimist International Wigan members, friends and many others supported past President Elaine Tyrrell’s husband Phil who rode to Paris with 35 others to raise money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. The valient effort was rewarded by the amount he raised £3,500, and Phil carried the Soroptimist  sash and logo with him on his ride . Well done to all involved.

On October 13th Soroptimist International Wigan orgaised a meal at the Wigan College Wheel Restaurant. It was attended by members and friends, a great evening was had by all with great food provided by the college students and £300 was raised to support the fantastic work of DIAS.

The search has begun for the Soroptimist International Wigan Young Achiever of 2018. This is an annual award for a girl or young woman aged 14-21 from Wigan Borough excluding Leigh, Tyldesley and Atherton who has excelled academically, in service, in sports, as a carer,in the arts or entrepreneur. Two events to raise awareness and support the National Osteoporosis Society

Soroptimist International Wigan and Soroptimist International Leigh both support the Ashton Leigh and Wigan Osteoporosis Support Group having previously raised funds for the National Osteoporosis Society.The aim is to raise awareness and help prevent osteoporosis and support people with the condition.                     On June 23rd 2018 SI Leigh had a Womens Zone event in the square outside Leigh Town Hall. The Osteoporosis stand was manned by members of SI Wigan and SI Leigh.  It was well attended and raised awareness of the Support Group and the National Osteoporosis Society.         On July 5th the local Osteoprosis Support Group had a stand at the Greater Manchester Festival Of Ageing at the DW Football Stadium, manned by members of SI Wigan. Over 500 people attended and about 100 people saw the information about the condition, the Support Group and the National Osteoporosis Society.

YOU ARE INVITED TO SUPPORT SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL WIGAN IN THE ROSE BOWL CHALLENGE ON JUNE 23rd South Lancashire Region Soroptimists have been challenged to walk a Memorable Mile in 2018. Soroptimist International Wigan members will be walking their Memorable Mile on Saturday 23rd June between 10am – 12.00 in Mesnes Park Wigan, and taking part in a quiz to celebrate the life and achievements of our memorable member Kate. Helen Childs will be running the mile on behalf of members unable to participate in the walk as she is practicing for the Great North Run where she is running to raise money for Cancer Research UK. You are invited to come to support Soroptimist International Wigan members who will be walking a mile in Mesnes Park  There will be refreshments available to purchase in the Pavillion where the prize for the quiz will be awarded
