Although it was an early start we all had an excellent visit to London and the Houses of Parliament. Lord Turner was kind enough to show us around the House of Lords and Mr Pat McFadden MP (Wolverhampton) joined us at lunch.
Once again we held a Strawberry Tea for the Residents at Abbeyfield Parkdale. Members of S I Wolverhampton volunteer for the various tasks, looking after the Raffle and Tombola, preparing the Strawberrys for the Tea and of course serving, not only the Residents but their families and friends too.
We were blessed with a beautiful day for President Parkash’s Barbecue. Many people supplied items for the raffle and the meat for the auction was donated by Gerald David and Family from Minehead. Everyone had a most enjoyable time and over £900 was raised for the President’s Charity.
Colchester and District Club welcomed various guests, including four from Wolverhampton, to their Spring Bank Holiday weekend. It commenced with a celebratory meal at the Wivenhoe Brasserie and Hotel, where everyone was welcomed by President Beryl Amy and was reiterated in the response given by The Mayor of Colchester, who was accompanied by his Consort. Highlights of the weekend included a walk to Harwich, a tour of Colchester Town Hall and the Beth Chatto Garden. There was also a trip to Cambridge with a guided tour of the City. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
President Gail presents a cheque for £525 to Kevin Curtis, for the Footprints Orphanage in Kenya. Kevin has just returned from the Orphanage, having taken books and eductaional material supplied by members of the Club and came to give us an update on the work being carried out there. Our cheque will go towards the survey currently being undertaken, to find a source of sustainable clean water for the Orphanage and the local village.
As a final flourish to President Gail’s year members of the Club gathered at the local Greyhound Racing Track, for a meal and a ‘flutter’. We all had a great ‘fun’ evening and some of the winnings were donated to the President’s Charity.
