We usually meet on first Tuesday evening of the month at Glanadda Community Centre, Bangor.

Programme action Betty’s 5p collections for Beaumaris RNLI

Cindy at the RNLI gratefully accepted our collection of 5 pence pieces and various other silver coins and foreign cash. During the year, these collections had been accumulated in jam jars and as a result we collectively raised  in excess of £80! (Betty’s 5p collections is a national campaign which is collected at local RNLI lifeboat stations)

Programme Action Chocolate Tombola and Craft stalls

Four successful chocolate tombola fundraising stalls were held at Ysbyty Gwynedd during the year, along with a christmas craft stall.  Several hundred pounds were raised towards the President’s Charity Breast Cancer Care at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Thank you Vicki for co-ordinating these events and also the fabulous club members who volunteered at the stalls.  Your smiles and laughter did it!!!

Programme Action Cardmaking fundraising project in memory of Julie Lewis

A group of club members came together to design a pack of notelets for sale for current and future club charity fundraising based on the inspiration of recently passed Club Member Julie Lewis who had created a similar project in her presidential year and was a very creative and artistic club member. Four local designs were chosen and formed a pack which have been for sale at the charter lunch and various stalls through out the year. At March 2025 £155 has been raised for Breast Cancer Care at Ysbyty Gwynedd, a further 28 packs will be available for fundraising…

£500 donation to North Wales Society of the Blind Walking Club

(Article provided by North Wales Society for the Blind) Bangor & District Soroptimists donate £500 to the Society’s Blind Walking Club The North Wales Society of the Blind’s Walking Club is delighted after receiving a cash gift to help fund buses to transport partially sighted and blind members and their guide dogs together with guides on their monthly walks. 4.3.25 Speaker Rhys Mwyn – Ancient monuments on the Isle of Anglesey

Rhys Mwyn is a musician, archeologist, writer and broadcaster as well as a qualified Wales Blue Badge guide. He has had an extensive career in the music industry from Bass player of Anrhefn to music manager, agent, publicist, record label owner and promoter however, our club members were fascinated by his talk on another subject in his career path as an archeologist. 1.3.25 St David’s Day Random acts of kindness

Small bunches/pots of daffodils were randomly given to bring a ray of sunshine to celebrate the coming of warmer spring weather and bring a smile to whomever received them!

14.1.25 Collecting essentials for Y Nyth

Members donated various essential items for the wellbeing of children at Y Nyth. Programme Action Lead Susan Waters coordinated with the group leaders to ensure practical items were collected and delivered. Thank you Susan!

14.1.25 Speaker Soroptimist Maggie Hughes : World Food Part 3

Maggie Hughes continued our exploration of World Food – on the Spice Trail! Sharing interesting facts on the culinary and medicinal values of many spices from around the world, along with samples of home baked spiced crackers and sausage rolls, followed by a spice themed quiz! Just the thing for a wintery might out. Thank you Maggie – hope to continue the journey next year in Part 4!

Club members met up at the Mill in Pontrug to enjoy a fabulously prepared dinner with great service and wonderful company!  

3.12.24 Christmas gift preparations and celebrations

Programme action lead Susan Waters lead Club members in wrapping and preparing gifts for the local Women’s refuge and making up shoe box collections for the local children of Y Nyth. Susan had been in contact with both organisations to ensure that the gifts were appropriate and chosen with care for these deserving families and individuals. She delivered bags of gift toiletries for individuals at the Women’s refuge along with other supplies for any future residents of the refuge. Christmas boxes were made up for the children of  Y Nyth.
