Enid Griffith Tribute

Olga Evison, Ciss Lloyd and Enid Griffith at Llangollen Eisteddfod

It is with great sadness we announce the passing, at 102 years of age, of our very dear friend Enid.  She was born in Llandrindod Wells and moved to Carmel, Gwynedd at a very early age and attended Llanrug School and Bangor School for Girls.  Enid was a student at Bangor College during the war and her first teaching post was at the Manchester School for Girls.  In the late 1940s she returned to teach at the Bangor School for Girls and was appointed  Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Friars until her retirement at the age of 61.  Enid was an inspiration to many, both young and old, and a very highly respected and loved wife, teacher, colleague and friend.

She was a very dedicated and committed member of Bangor & District Soroptimists for 52 years and became President of the club in 1979.   Enid made a very valuable contribution to planning the programme on an annual basis and always provided a long list of contributors and excellent speakers for our meetings.  She was awarded an Honorary Membership of the club a few years ago and remained a regular supporter at club events until very recently.   She was also  a member and supporter of the Friends of Treborth Botanic Garden for over 20 years, later becoming an Honorary Member of the Group.  Enid was also active with the North Wales Wildlife Trust, the Alpine Garden Society and the RSPB. She will be missed by all her family and friends – Rest in Peace dear Enid.
