Congratulations to President Diane and all members of SI Bangor & District for a fantastic amount raised this year for Breast Cancer Care at Ysbyty Gwynedd. At our AGM held on 1 April at the Carreg Bran Hotel (to whom we extend our thanks for a sumptuous buffet and very accommodating support) a cheque for £7,870 was accepted by Kirsty Thompson, Head of Fundraising at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Kirsty explained how this money will make a huge difference to women diagnosed with this disease. Amongst the purchases to be made with the funds raised will be a special chair for women unable to undergo mammograms in the standing position which will provide more comfort and improved dignity during these interventions. What an amazing amount! President Diane thanked all members for their efforts at the many fundraising events held during the year in support of her chosen charity which had affected many friends, family and club members.
In addition, Kirsty Thompson accepted £500 for the Colorectal West fund at Ysbyty Gwynedd which will be used for research and education purposes for the talented team who provide much needed services. Member Mair Jones OBE was instrumental in collating the fundraising for this cause.
Fundraising throughout the year mounted to over £10,000 which included sums to Breast Cancer Care at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ty Gobaith, Macmillan Cancer Care, RNLI, North Wales Society for the Blind and local Colorectal funding. Several other local causes were also supported with other donations such as foodbanks, Y Nyth and the local Women’s refuge.
