Cirencester Soroptimists Win Award

Cirencester and District Soroptimist Club is proud to have won recognition for their “Gift Box” project last year.

At the Annual General Meeting of the South West & Channel Islands Region in Bristol last month (June), they were awarded the Ellen Brawn plate by regional president Sue Perry.  This is given annually to the club considered to have run the best project of the year over the whole of the south-west.

Marietta Crockford, who was Cirencester club’s president last year, first saw these boxes during the 2012 Olympics in London and thought it would be good to have one in Cirencester.  With the help of many people, and the club’s great team work, the Gift Box was hosted in the market place during two very hot weeks in July 2013.  Marietta has now painted a picture of the Gift Box, copies of which will shortly be on sale.

The success of this project has inspired other clubs nationally to host a Gift Box from the charity Stop the Traffik, and Cirencester club is providing welcome advice to these clubs. Further information can be obtained from Stop the Traffik on info@stopthetraffik.org
