Well done to SI Dublin members who did another An Taisce litter pick up along the Dodder from the Dropping Well to Farmer Brown’s (Rathmines) and back for World Earth Day.
Well done to all of the girls who took part in our public speaking competition. We had 9 speakers who were all excellent. Our winners were Sophie Faughnan & Sophie Kilcullen from Holy Faith, Clontarf and our reserve Aisling McGorrian from St Joseph of Cluny. They will represent SI Dublin in the Regional finals in Athlone on December 4th.
President Mary Troy presented Cathy Kelly & Ann Murray from Home-Start Blanchardstown a cheque for €1176.11, which was raised from our 10k walks by SI Dublin members and Home-Start staff and Board members in June 2021. They provide vital support to families. It was a great honour to see the work being done by Cathy, Ann and the team.
President Linda Peters performed induction ceremony of our 2 new members to SI Dublin. We are delighted to welcome Stephanie and Elaine into our club. We wish them the very best.We hope to meet up in person very soon.
Club President Linda Peters and Birgit Schmidt Programme Action Officer, met with The Tree Council of Ireland & Glencree Centre for Peace & Reconciliation to decide where the 250 native Irish trees will be planted.
As part of our National Project, Climate Action, SI Dublin members took part in An Taisce’s Spring Clean.
We promoted the idea of buying a tree as a Christmas gift at a time when shops weren’t open due to the pandemic. Members were encouraged to promote the project by sending an e-card outlining it to their friends and any WhatsApp groups they belonged to. An e-certificate was provided for everyone who bought trees. The project was undertaken in partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland who will plant the trees in the Glencree valley. In total €1130 was raised which means that a grove of 226 native trees will be planted with a plaque referencing the Soroptimist Centenary.
Follow up to a presentation at the SIGBI conference in Bournemouth October 2019. One of the members hosted a club meeting with supper and refreshments where members made a donation towards the project. This raised €60 and it was then decided that members would collect loose change “Spend a Penny” to raise further funds which made a further €226. This gives a total of £257 with which we will purchase a block of 4 toilets in a school in Malawi.
