Soroptimist International - Folkestone

We are pleased to announce that we are now holding our Club Meetings at The Open Door Project, at 101 High Street, Hythe, Kent, CT21 5JH. on the third Wednesday of each month at 7PM. If you would like to find out more about us, please contact us to come along.

We delivered Christmas gifts for the women and children at the Folkestone Women’s Refuge. Our gifts included pamper items for the women,  pyjamas for the younger children and manicure sets for the older girls, which we hope that they enjoyed. We have supported the Folkestone Women’s Refuge for many years now, from providing them with garden games to coffee mornings.       Moving forward, we are hoping to get involved with the Refuge in Literacy UK project.  Watch this space! Did you know that blister packs from pills and tablets can be recycled? We regularly collect these up as a club and take them to Superdrug in Folkestone which has a collection bin located near the pharmacy, from where they are collected and recycled. Unfortunately they cannot go in your home recycling bin but some of the pharmacies have a recycling programme for this. You can find out more about recycling here  Our call to action is for you to do the same and apply pressure to the drug manufacturers to look at more sustainable packaging.

To mark the start of the 16 days of activism against gender based violence, we took part in the Silent March in Canterbury organised by SI Canterbury on Saturday 25th November, where we were joined by our Regional President Alison, and members from a variety of clubs across the South East region as well as members of the public.          Our own club member  Yvonne Freeman who is the Regional Programme Action officer carried out the following research in to the 16 days of activism against gender based violence  which you can read below 16 Days of…
