Jacque Emery Writing Competition – April 2017

We ran The Jacque Emery writing competition (in memory of Jacque who was a former region president) asked children to consider equality and to write an essay entitled “Are men and women equal in the world today?” and it was clear they felt the topic was very relevant in today’s world.

The competition was open to all children in Year 6 across Shepway, was enthusiastically taken up by several schools, including the Folkestone Academy and their enthusiasm paid off as they scooped not only the winning prize, but also one of the runner-up prizes. The Judges praised two other entries from the school and the children received special commendation prizes.  The other runner up prize was won by a pupil from Saltwood C of E Primary School.  Linda Hardware, one of the judges said she felt that the children’s essays were both insightful and well-argued.

Jan Doyle,  our President Elect was one of the judges, and presented the winning prize to Jake Stammers
