It is with much sadness that the Club announce the loss of Dorothy Taylor, one of our longest serving members. Eulogy by  Judith Webb, Neighbour and sister Soroptimist It is with great sadness that I write about Dorothy but it is also a privilege to tell you about her. Early life  I first met Dorothy in 1986 when we had both moved in to our new bungalows in Ripon and amazingly as we got to know each other we found we had been living parallel lives. In our youth, we both lived on King’s Road, and attended Harrogate Grammar School.  Dorothy had been appointed Head Girl. Eventually after some time working in chemical research, which led to some interesting incidents she became a primary school teacher and finally a head teacher at Husthwaite, a country primary school. Centenarian Sheila Pantin received the Club’s Honorary Membership when  President Sheila and Immediate Past President Christine visited Sheila at her home  on the 15th May 2025.  Sheila truly deservers recognition for giving a lifetime of service. VE DAY CONCERT – in the Royal Box Just back from her trip to London, with her daughter Helen,  to help celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE day.  Sheila recounted her attendance at the VE Day concert on Horse Guards Parade on the 8th May 2025, with  humour and animation.  Sheila attended the event wearing the original Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) uniform. As Sheila and Helen neared Horse Guards parade they were informed they  would be in the “Royal Box”!  This did not phase Sheila whatsoever.  As one of the last people to enter the Royal Box and seated on the 2nd row, she noticed that a few seats

WOMEN WINNING Women Winning a yearlong partnership programme celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 truly kicked off in style on the 3rd March at the Odeon Cinema in Harrogate .  Women Winning President Christine and members of SI Harrogate and District joined Paula Stott, Chair of Harrogate Film Society and Sarah Barry CEO of Harrogate Football Club for the showing of the documentary film Copa 71. Copa 71 follows the history of the unofficial women’s football world cup in Mexico, the final was seen by over 100,000 spectators. Teams from 6 countries England, Mexico, Argentina, Denmark, Italy and France all played on the world stage, but this tournament was erased from sporting history until recently.  The documentary focussed on interviews from the female players.  All described how,  in the late 1960s, early 1970s at home they were ridiculed and subjected to direct discrimination.
