What a surprise at President Angela’s Regional Conference held in Scarborough on 6th June 2015. We had an unexpected visit from Federation President, Jenny Vince. The one day conference was on the theme “Educate and Empower through Performance and the Arts.” It was held in Scarborough Spa and an inspirational day for all.
The first inspiration was when Federation President asked S.I. Keighley member, Kath Harrison, to come up to the stage. She outlined briefly Kath’s years as a Soroptimist and how she had made a difference in her role as an Occupational Therapist; her work with The Stroke Club she had started and how she had been a member since 1955 which means she has given 60 years service to Soroptimist International. Jenny presented Kath with a Certificate. It was noted that it was Kath’s birthday so everyone joined in singing Happy Birthday.
SI Keighley celebrated 80 years in 2014 and whilst Kath has not been a member of Keighley throughout her membership time it is astounding that she has completed three quarters of the club’s existence.
The Conference followed on with many interesting speakers; a good lunch where time allowed the catching up of friendships made over the years by many present. In the photo above Kath is seen with Shirley Turner also from SI Keighley. Both have shared fun and friendship and many adventures both at home and abroad together.
Our congratulations go out to Kath at achieving this milestone in our wonderful organisation.
