Ann Dinsdale – Curator of Bronte Parsonage Ann gave a very interesting talk on the Museum which first opened on 4th August 1928. She gave an insight into the problems of tracing original manuscripts. She also explained the difficulty of fundraising for certain documents in time for the sales. The talk was in context with the lives of the sisters but a different perspective to that usually heard. Definately made you feel you wanted to make another visit to the Parsonage.

Sadly the Women Together speaker was unable to attend. Our Secretary, Christine Anderton, volunteered her services and gave an excellent talk on her recent visit to Botswana. The safari had been well planned and Christine had many photographs of animals at close quarters and detailed the area of the country where they had travelled on a map. Members were eager to learn of the adventure she had undertaken last month.

First meeting of the new academic year took place and we welcomed two potential new members.  The meeting focused on preparation for our contribution to the National BIG COFFEE BREAK FOR MACMILLAN CANCER.  We plan our event for 26th September 2013 from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm in school.  It is anticipated that it will be a non uniform day and everyone volunteered food for the event.

Susan Dunne of Pet the Pony gave us a talk about how she first started this project and how she hopes to build it to charitable status.  She explained that whilst working in a local Care Home she realised that patients often missed contact with pets and other animals.  She has two British miniature spotted ponies which she takes to schools and care homes where they are welcomed. A DVD was shown of the news item from ITV’s Calendar programme when they visited the Yorkshire Disabled unit at St. Ives, Bingley.  Photographs were shown of the ponies as they were not allowed into K.R.U.F.C.
