Jenny with the cake she made displayed on the club’s embroidered table cloth
On Friday 13th October our club held its 70th Anniversary Dinner at the Dean Park Hotel where we hold our club meetings. We had invited our Friendship Link clubs and were pleased that so many members were able to attend. Also in attendance were Soroptimist members from throughout our Region, as well as family and friends. We had a lovely time looking at the club memorabilia on display, including the original Charter from 1953 and the club’s tablecloth with the embroidered names of all our members.
After a delicious meal we were privileged to listen to our after-dinner speaker, Marion Todd, who is a crime writer from North East Fife. Her books are situated in and around St Andrews and many club members have read some of them. She talked to us about how she goes about writing her books – including all the hoovering and dog walking she does when she can’t bring herself to commit words to paper!
After the meal there was a table draw for the orchids which adorned each table, as well as the main draw for an Afternoon Tea, kindly donated by the Dean Park Hotel. We finished the evening doing what Soroptimists are very good at – blethering! All in all an excellent evening. Well done everyone involved in the organisation of the event.
