International Women’s Day (8th March)
We host a coffee morning with East Meets West, a local organisation for women who are or have been refugees and asylum seekers
International Day of Peace (21st September)
We hold a dinner event bi-annually to mark this
Violence against women and girls (VAWG)
The United Nations identifies the 25th of each month to raise awareness of VAWG and the colour orange is used. As many other Soroptimist clubs do, we hold ‘Orange Cafe’ events as often as we can on the 25th of the month where we wear orange, raise awareness of the issue and spread the word about Soroptimism.
The 25th of November is White Ribbon Day in the UK and we support this charity by campaigning in Lancaster city centre on the closest Saturday to that. We invite the Mayor of Lancaster and local MP’s each year.
World Food Day (16th October)
The club has held a coffee and cakes day at a member’s home in October for many years. A different charity is supported each year and there is a large collection of food items for the Olive Branch Food Bank.
