Programme Action – it’s what we do!

Programme Action is at the heart of the Soroptimist club, it’s what sets us apart from other organisations.  Making a difference to the lives of women and girls in our community and around the world.
Our programme action work covers many areas, some projects are ongoing:
  • The Basic Kindness Project, in partnership with Morrisons and Local Start Well Centres.
  • Supporting the women’s refuge with welcome dignity bags.
  • Collecting with The Royal British Legion for their poppy appeal.
  • Just The Job, The Interview Dressing Room.

The Basic Kindness Project

What is The Basic Kindness Project?
Following the success of the Red Box Project, and the governments commitment to fund free period products in all schools and colleges from early 2020 Leigh and District Soroptimist Club has taken the decision to continue to support out of school provision for period products in our community.  This new project will also provide basic hygiene essentials for people in crisis and struggling, with the aim of improving their self-esteem and personal well being.
This project runs on community kindness, thanks to Morrisons for hosting a donation point so that members of the community can donate products to help those most in need.  Boxes containing a selection of toiletries and period products have been placed in 6 local Start Well Family Centres where they can be accessed by people who need and will benefit from them and they are also used in the outreach work carried out by Start Well.  This project is about self-esteem and discretion will be used to maintain the recipients dignity.
