Message from President Rita Beaumont 2025-27

324-President Rita Beaumont at SILC AGM 2025“Good Health and Wellbeing – the Right of Everyone”

London Chilterns Theme 2025/27

“I am delighted to be your Regional President for the next two years, providing the same continuity as our Immediate Past-President Kate Belinis has achieved.

As I will be in office for two years and I have decided to run my theme over that time. Given my background in healthcare and having previously been Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland Assistant Programme Director for Health and Food Security, you will not be surprised that my chosen theme is Good Health and Wellbeing ~ the Right of Everyone.

The theme reflects the United Nations Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) that aims to ‘ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages’.

The theme provides a very broad agenda giving us plenty of scope to explore various aspects through our four Regional Conferences each year and in our Clubs, looking specifically at factors affecting women and children, including older women, those who are disabled, women who are informal carers and children who are young carers. Importantly we will continue to promote the already established work championing ways to stop violence against women and how those women affected access vital health and social care services.

Over the next two years with your help, we will also focus our activities on how we recruit new Members to continue the vital work as Soroptimists and importantly retain those we have. Joined up thinking and working with others for maximum effect is essential; recruitment and retention are intrinsically related to our Programme Work/Projects. Our Projects must be relevant in order to attract the attention of local women who want to make a difference, that work then extends to our wider geographical agenda but must always reflect our overall principles to strive for the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all, equality, development and peace and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.

Soroptimists 1958The fundamental reason why women choose to join does not change ~ we are women who want to make a difference: the way we work may be different to the illustrious women who have gone before us; times move on, in photographs they may look very different and much more formal than us but they were real trail blazers and together we have a duty to carry on the work they started.

Yours in friendship, Rita Beaumont”
